I think of him often, I never knew him, but I admire so much for what he stood for - I want to be inspired to be active and not passive, just like him.

Mark Ashton. A true inspiration to our community. 🌈🫶

Inspiration

As the son of miner and to ensure those that we lost are never forgotten.

Mark inspired many and his story has been immortalised through the film Pride. On this day in 1987, Mark was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS and was dead within two weeks. His work lives on.

In memory of Mark Ashton

I first heard of Mark Ashton through the sharing of that wonderful 2014 film "Pride". It simply raised my awareness, whilst also making me smile, cry and have a good laugh! It is saddening to think of those who suffered prior to the now, better medical outcomes, for those with HIV and AIDS. Indeed a friend has survived and lives a good life as a result of all the work of charities that helped find a efficient treatment.

I was too young to understand, at the time. I learned. If Mark had lived, he would have led so many others towards understanding.

I watched the program on BBC about LGSM and wanted to just show respect for Mark and his LGSM family and the causes and values he championed.
